Brdo pri Kranju (Slovenia), 20th April 2023: Her Excellency Ambassador Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba is participating in the 12th Africa Day International Conference taking place from 20th – 21st April 2023 in Slovenia.
The opening session took place today, 20th April 2022, and was officially opened by Ms Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. The conference is being held under the theme “Africa and Europe: Climate Security for the Future – Global Challenges, Local Action” and includes over 350 participants from Africa, Slovenia and the EU. The event is hosted by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia in cooperation with the Bled Strategic Forum, Chatham House and the European Commission.
Following the opening session, high-level government officials, climate experts and strategic partners participated in a panel discussion to address issues such as climate justice, effective models for global climate financing, and regional and local solutions for specific environmental challenges.
Her Excellency Mrs Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, also addressed the conference and the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Ms Jutta Urpilainen.
The conference will continue tomorrow to further deliberate on enhancing nature-based solutions to local action for climate resilience, smart business solutions for ecological security, and a segment on enchaining Slovenia-Africa cooperation. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to appreciate cultural displays, which include musical and gastronomical experiences.
The annual conference that has taken place since 2012 is an important forum that brings together high-level political actors, experts, government officials and policymakers to discuss strategic issues to improve understanding and strengthen cooperation between the Global North and South.
