Maputo (Mozambique), Tuesday 25th October 2022: From 25th to 28th October 2022, Members of Parliament and representatives of Botswana to the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Parliamentary Assembly, Hon. Dr Unity Dow and Hon. Mr Caterpillar H. Hikuama will participate in the 61st Session of the OACPS Parliamentary Assembly in Maputo, Mozambique.
The Assembly brings together Members of Parliament from 6 (six) ACP regions to discuss issues of mutual interest. The Assembly provides a forum that enhances cooperation and collaboration between Parliamentarians from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific through dialogue and exchange of experiences on a wide range of topics such as climate change, food security, economic integration, international trade, and women and youth empowerment, among others. These interactions are critical in strengthening democracy in the ACP States by building effective networks and consolidating parliamentary diplomacy at the international fora.
Members of Parliament will participate in the three Committees of the OACPS Parliamentary Assembly and exchange views on current global issues of interest to the OACPS. The three Committees are Political Affairs; Economic Development, Finance and Trade; and Social Affairs and the Environment. Botswana is a member of the Social Affairs and Environment Committee. The Leader of the Botswana Delegation, Hon. Dr Unity Dow will also participate to a special session planned to brief Parliamentarians on preparations for the upcoming 10th Summit of the OACPS Heads of State and Government, which will be held from 6th to 10th December 2022 in Luanda, Angola.
The Parliamentary Assembly will conclude on the 28th of October 2022, followed by the 42nd Session of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly from the 29th of October to the 2nd of November 2022.
