Brussels, 21st May 2025: The Minister of International Relations of the Republic of Botswana, Honourable Dr. Phenyo Butale is participating in the 3rd African Union (AU)-European Union (EU) Ministerial meeting taking place today in Brussels, Belgium. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the AU and the EU have convened in the EU Headquarters to deliberate and take stock of progress made since the sixth EU-AU Summit which took place in February 2022.
Foreign Ministers will also hold discussion and exchange views on the EU-AU partnership and how to further strengthen cooperation.
The meeting is co-chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, H.E Ms. Kaja Kallas, and the Minister of External Relations of Angola, H.E. Mr. Tete António, Chairperson of the AU Executive Council.
The 3rd AU-EU Ministerial meeting is a significant one taking place in 2025 which marks the 25th anniversary of AU-EU enduring and unique partnership.
Ministers will deliberate on issues of mutual concern including peace, security and governance, multilateralism, migration and mobility and prosperity.
