The Hague (The Netherlands), 4th December 2025: Botswana is participating in the 24th Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), taking place from 1– 6 December 2025 in The Hague, Netherlands.
The delegation is led by Honourable Ramaotwana Nelson Ramaotwana, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, joined by the following officials, Ms. Naledi Stella Moroka, Permanent Secretary-Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services, Ms. Dinah Marathe, Commissioner of Botswana Police Service, Mr. Anthony Mokento, Commissioner of Botswana Prison Service and Mr. Kgosietsile Ngakaagae, Director-Directorate of Public Prosecutions as well as the Ambassador of Botswana to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E Ms. Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba.
The Assembly brings together all countries that are party to the Rome Statute—a treaty Botswana has proudly supported since 2002.
Throughout the week, global representatives will discuss key issues affecting the Rome Statute system, including cooperation, budgetary matters, and proposed amendments, as well as the work of the Trust Fund for Victims.
The Honourable Minister also held several high-level bilateral meetings, engaging with ministerial delegations from South Africa, Uganda and the Chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Japan in the Hague. The Botswana delegation also met with high level representatives including Judge Tomoko Akane, President of the International Criminal Court, Mr. Mame Mandiaye Niang- Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and Dr. Marcin Czepelak, Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. These discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and advancing shared commitments to justice and the rule of law.
During the General Debate, Minister Ramaotwana reaffirmed Botswana’s unwavering commitment to international justice, accountability, and upholding the principles of the Rome Statute.
The Honourable Minister and the Botswana will also engage Dr. Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) on the 5th December, 2025 to dialogue on possible areas of collaboration.
