Stakeholder Consultations In Luxembourg: The European Investment Bank (EIB) And The Luxembourg Chamber Of Commerce

Luxembourg (Luxembourg), 13th September 2023: the Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana, Her Excellency Mrs. Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, had a meeting with the European Investment Bank (EIB) Head of Division, International Partners, Mr. Diederick Zambon, to discuss the bank’s cooperation with Botswana. The EIB is the European Union’s (EU) development bank. It is one of the largest supranational lenders globally and is owned by EU Member States. It supports private sector development and public sector investments in OACPS countries, focusing on climate action and access to finance for SMEs through loans, guarantees, equity investments and advisory services. The meeting discussed economic sectors of mutual priority such as, climate and environment, innovation, digital and human capital development, small and medium-sized businesses, and sustainable energy and natural resources.

While in Luxembourg, Ambassador Masire-Mwamba also met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Carlo Thelen. The Chamber protects the interests of the Luxembourg economy and companies in industry, commerce, banking and finance, services, insurance and the hotel and catering industry. The Ambassador shared Botswana’s investment incentives and opportunities with a view to strengthening business and trade relations between Botswana and Luxembourg. The meeting also discussed the upcoming Europe Botswana Business Forum (EBBF) and Global Expo, which will be held in October 2023, in Gaborone (Botswana).

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Botswana to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Mr. Heiner Hartwich, participated in both meetings and was instrumental in facilitating the stakeholder engagements.
