Brussels, 28th February 2023: The 62nd Session of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Parliamentary Assembly and Inter-sessional meetings of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly and the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly is taking place from 25th February -2nd March 2023 in Brussels, Belgium.
Members of Parliament of the National Assembly of Botswana, Hon. Dr Unity Dow and Hon. Kainangura C. Hikuama are participating in the meetings. The Assembly brings together Members of Parliament from the 3 (three) regions of – Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific to discuss issues of mutual interest such as food and energy security, trade and investment, culture, ACP diaspora engagement, migration, and women and youth empowerment among others.
The OACPS Parliamentary Assembly is expected to discuss and exchange views on the new OACPS-EU Partnership Agreement.
The inter-sessional meetings of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly will commence on 1st March 2022 and are expected to exchange views and consider, amongst others, amendments to the following draft resolutions:
Committee on Social Affairs and the Environment
• Strengthening Parliamentary Solidarity and political will for Road Safety in Members of the OACPS and EU Countries, including safe infrastructure.
Committee on Economic Development, Finance and Trade
• The EU list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions and the list of third countries regarding Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Financing of Terrorism (CTF)
Committee on Political Affairs
• Enhancing cooperation on maritime security and promoting the rule of law on oceans.
Botswana is currently a member of the ACP-EU Standing Committee on Social Affairs and the Environment. Honourable Dow is the lead discussant of the resolution entitled Strengthening Parliamentary Solidarity and political will for Road Safety in Members of the OACPS and EU Countries, including safe infrastructure.
The meeting will end on 2nd March 2022.
