The Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Molebatsi S. Molebatsi Participated in the 35th Session of the FAO’s Committee on Fisheries (COFI35)

Rome, 5th September 2022: On the session’s agenda, which will is held from the 5th to the 9th September 2022 in Rome (Italy), are important topics such as the State of World Fisheries, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Support for Small-Scale and Artisanal Fisheries, Combatting Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, the Implications of Climate Change on Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Fisheries and Aquaculture, as well as, Commemoration of 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA).

These deliberations are key for Botswana due to the positive impact that fisheries and aquaculture have on women and youth empowerment, nutrition, food security, sustainable environmental management, economic development and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
