Brussels (Belgium), 29th September 2023: Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana to the Kingdom of Belgium H.E Ambassador Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba hosted a reception in Brussels to commemorate the 57th Anniversary of Botswana’s Independence on the 29th of September 2023.
The theme for the celebration was: Culture and Tourism. It highlighted Botswana’s tourism portfolio as well as specific cultural themes including Setswana food, music and cultural displays.
Mr. Matthijs Verberkmoes, Business Director & Co-owner of SafariBookings made a presentation on the survey leading to Botswana receiving the number 1 position for the best Safari Country for 2023. The award was presented to H.E Ambassador Masire-Mwamba memorialising this victory.
The event was attended by various dignitaries including Ambassador Hubert Roisin, Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Federal Public Service, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium, Ms. Rita Laranjinha, Director for Africa at the European External Action Services and H.E. Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary General of the OACPS.
Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Brussels, Heads of International Organisations, Diplomatic Corps, Batswana Diaspora in Belgium and other strategic stakeholders came to celebrate the day with the Embassy.
In her remarks, Ambassador Masire-Mwamba underscored the strong bilateral relations between Botswana and Belgium which were established in 1975. She shared that the strength of the relationship is premised on mutual benefit, respect and trust, including the shared commitments to democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law. The two countries are important world centres for diamond mining and trading.
